Dan was born on Oct. 2, 1951 to Leonard & Louise (Nierengarten) DeMarais.  Dan was raised on the family farm in Foley, MN with his fifteen brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly.  Dan was a strong athlete and will always be known for all his achievements.  He had great pride in the state wrestling titles he held for his community.  Dan graduated from Foley High School and attended college in Wahpeton, ND.

At the tender age of 20, Dan married the love of his life, Randa Ritzko.  On July 8, 1972 they were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morrill, MN.  With faith and love they raised their two children.

Dan was a hard worker.  He held various jobs including landscaping and masonry.  He was an avid supporter of his local Steelworkers Union #274.  In 2012 after 37 years in the paper industry Dan retired from Verso (formerly St. Regis, International Paper, Champion International).

Dan had many hobbies and interests.  On any given day, you could find him tending to his immaculate yard.  He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.  Dan spent much of his life sharing his talent of wrestling, coaching many young men including his son Chad, and most recently his grandson Austin.  Dan's greatest pride was his family, especially his four grandchildren.

Dan has touched the lives of many.  He will be greatly missed by his wife Randa, son Chad (Sarah) DeMarais, daughter Tara (Brian) Walz, grandchildren Austin and Anna Walz, Julia and Sylvia DeMarais, brothers Tom, Terry, Jim, Skip, Roger, Rick and John DeMarais, sisters, Jean Dominguez, Joan DeMarais, Dorothy Terhaar, Sharon Alvord, Pat Lenger, Marilyn Kalscheuer, Diane Smith and Mick Brennan.  Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
