David B. Thralow, 76
St. Joseph, Minnesota
Apr. 15, 1937 - Jan. 25, 2014
"Open the Gates, I say." We think this might be what David said to St. Peter on January 25, the day of his passing. It was a common phrase on our farm, as he drove around on his tractor, tending to the animals, as confirmed by his children Danielle, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rachel and Jonathan.
David met his wife, Joan, at college. She had been warned against dating seniors, athletes and certainly not a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity…all of which David was.
One of David's greatest accomplishments was raising ethical, hardworking, intelligent, witty good looking children (and that's according to Matt).
Truly, David was a loving and loyal family man who gave the best hugs. He was always forthright and honest. He never left you guessing.
His baby sister, Nancy, was often heard telling him, "Why you teas-a-me? I nice-a-you." And later in life that he was, "truly the best brother ever."
David loved playing cards, interjecting one-liners and his involvement in community services, two of which were the St. Joseph Township and the American Legion. David was captain of his football team, led them to state, and he received a scholarship to UND. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Army
. David worked over 30 years at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
David died from complications related to dementia caused by stroke and diabetes. He will be sincerely missed by his family including twelve grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Care Center and Fergus Falls Veterans home for their compassionate care.
