A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Country Manor Chapel at 520 First Street NE, Sartell, MN for Elizabeth "Betty Lou" Dietman, age 84 of Fairfield, TX formerly of Sartell, MN, who died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. The Reverend Alfred Stangl will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud on Monday, January 7, 2013.
Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Country Manor Chapel in Sartell. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Betty was born the youngest of four sisters on February 3, 1928 in Litchfield, MN to Harry and Emma (Gundershaug) Card. Raised by her mother and loving grandparents and extended family, she graduated from Willmar High School and went to St. Cloud Technical College to become a teacher. She taught at Pine River and other Minnesota schools and married Elvin Dietman on June 20, 1949 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. The mother of four, Betty taught in the Robbinsdale School District and finished her working career as the manager of a medical supply store for many years before retirement.
Betty was a friend to all, she enjoyed baking for her family, camping, keeping a garden, knitting, painting ceramics and loved to play cards with her friends. She took care of her ailing husband for many years. After the death of her husband in 2007, Betty lived at the Country Manor Assisted Living apartments and had many dear friends. Betty will be remembered for her friendliness to all, her quirky sense of humor, and the many creative items and culinary treats she made for friends and family.
Betty's survivors include her daughters Mary (Larry) Schuster of Orlando, FL and Betsy (Pat) Metcalf of Streetman, TX; five grandchildren: Janet, Laura, Michael, Charles and Constance; seven great grandchildren: Alana, Riley, Abigail, Nathan, Tyler, Jackson and Samuel; and sister Marjorie Bjorndahl of Willmar, MN.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters June and Dorothy, and sons Michael and Stephen.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
