Elvira was born April 9, 1916 in St. Cloud, MN to Ludwig and Rosa (Weber) Hiemenz. She married John H. Mick on September 29, 1938 at St. Anthony¹s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Elvira lived all her life except for 9 years in the home she was raised. Together they farmed the family farm, raised 6 children and helped with the grandchildren. In their spare time they hunted, fished and did some traveling. In her later years, Mom always could be found in her huge garden in the summer and her quilting room the rest of the year. Family and friends were always welcome, as was evident by the coffee pot always on and baked goodies to be had. Discussions around the kitchen table along with her crossword puzzles were a daily occurrence. To Mom it was not a good day if it hadn¹t occurred. Mom¹s love of family, sharp wit and her ability to hit the mark when she spoke will be greatly missed.
She is survived by daughters and sons, Sharon Hodel of Cold Spring, MN; Karen (Tony) Vetsch of Waite Park, MN; Ginger Gilbert of Sonoma, CA; Terry (Mary) Mick of Waite Park, MN; Greg (Carol) Mick of Waite Park, MN; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Mick of Waite Park, MN; brother and sister, Vernon Hiemenz of Cold Spring, MN; Leona Schwinghammer of Belgrade, MN; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John on January 23, 1996; one son, Loren Mick; one great grandson, Todd Brink; two son-in-laws, Mark Gilbert and Doug Hodel; and one brother, Archie Hiemenz.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Assumption Home for the love and care they provided our MOM.
