Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 5th, at 10:30 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Genevieve H. Bastien, age 86, of St. Cloud, who died on Wednesday October 31st. Rev. Joe Backowski will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday between 4:00-8:00 PM and on Monday after 9:00 AM at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 PM.
Gen was born January 30th, 1926 in St. Cloud to Joseph and Jennie (Press) Sleevi. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She married Richard D. "Dick" Bastien on August 29th, 1946 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Gen lived in the St. Cloud area most of her married life where she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Anne's Christian Women, and Daughters of Isabella.
She was very active in volunteer work in the St . Cloud area. Gen co-chaired the Holly Ball and St. Benedict's Center Oktoberfest. She was a 22 year member of the St. Cloud Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a Past President, and also formerly served as Vice President of the State Hospital Auxiliary.
Gen will best be remembered for her gourmet cooking, especially her German potato palad, apple pie, rhubarb cake, banana bread and Gramma Gen's meatballs. Around every great family meal, there was lots of love and laughter.
Survivors include children, Dick Bastien Jr. (Mary) Monticello, Michael Bastien (Judy) St. Cloud, Robert Bastien (Cyrene) Silver Creek, Cathy Murray (Duane) West Des Moines, Carolyn Merten (Bob) St. Cloud, Marilyn Miller (Maurice) St. Cloud and Joan Bastien, St. Cloud, 23 grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick Sr. July 22, 2008, son John, March 29th, 2009, infant children, Barbara Rose, Mary Ann, and twin brother of Joan, her brothers and sisters, Dorothy Hatfield, Frances Peters, Monica Daniel, Eileen Goerger, Eugene and Raymond Sleevi.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at 5 South at the St. Cloud Hospital and Shirley Hubert (mom's hairstylist for over 40 years).
Memorials are preferred to the Poor Clares Monastery in Sauk Rapids, who were mom's glorious angels here on earth.
