Jim was born January 5, 1935 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to the late Leo R. and Josephine (Sufka) Plachecki. He grew up in a house at the bottom of Chapel Hill in Cold Spring, and graduated from St. Boniface High School. He proudly served 4 years in the US Air Force where he was trained as an electronics engineer. His service allowed him to travel to many European destinations. Returning to Forbes Field Air Force Base in Topeka, KS there he met and married Marilyn J. Helms. They were married for 14 years and had 4 children. They relocated to St. Cloud when Jim obtained the manager position at McCarthy\'s Drive-In. Later Jim sold life insurance and then worked as regional supervisor for Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips. Jim also worked over 20 years in appliance sales at Best Buy. After "retiring" Jim continued to work part-time as the maintenance man at the "1430 Condos" and also regularly helped transport vehicles. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Jim had a special way of relating to people, with a twinkle in his eye and his heart felt laughter; it was easy to see why he was the center of attention. His joking would continue as did his love of card games. You could usually get him to play Pitch, Spades and Euchre but if he was alone you would find him playing Solitaire.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas P. Plachecki, and his son Thomas E. Plachecki. Survivors include: three daughters, Patty (Galen) Buck and Janet Campbell of Topeka, KS, Nancy (Roger) Masenthin of Bennington, KS; six grandchildren; brother Gene Plachecki of Waite Park, sister Rose (Bill) Morris, sister in-law Barb Plachecki all of St. Cloud; two nieces and two nephews.

Jim's friendly nature and zest for life will be missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
