LeRoy "Roy" Palm, 91

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 at 4:30 PM at Christ Church Newman Center for Roy Palm who died at Quiet Oaks Hospice House on Tuesday. The Rev. Tony Oelrich will officiate. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call from 3:00- 4:30 PM at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Roy Palm was born in Eagle Bend, Minnesota on October 12, 1921, the youngest child of Jones and Elnora (Johnson) Palm. He attended Eagle Bend Public School and graduated in 1939. In the following year, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp stationed in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Roy was working at North American Aviation in California at the start of WW II and enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1942. He served on a Submarine Chaser in the Caribbean and European theatres. After his discharge in 1945, Roy attended St. Cloud Teacher's College, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. His first teaching assignment was in Grand Marais, Minnesota where he met his wife, Andriette Maus. They were married in 1951 and moved to Bloomington, Indiana where Roy earned a M.S. degree at Indiana University
. After several teaching and administrative assignments in Red Wing, Sauk Centre, and Blue Earth, Minnesota, they settled in Waldorf with Roy as principal at the Waldorf-Pemberton High School. He retired in 1986. After his retirement, Roy and Andriette relocated to Waite Park where Roy volunteered with adult education classes, English as a second language, and tutoring for G.E.D. He also enjoyed woodworking and stained glass projects.
Roy was a member of Christ Church Newman Center for sixteen years, former member of the American Legion, Lions, Masons, Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and Region 11 Selective Service board. He was also a volunteer fireman
and first responder for twenty years.
Survivors include his wife, Andriette; children, Owen (Karen) of Gering, NE, Steven (Ann) of Sauk Rapids, Charles (Ute) of Waconia, Eric (Carla) of Dayton, OH, and Ann of Simi Valley, CA; nine grandchildren, Bryan, Corey, Kerstin, Karl, Sabine, Melanie, Allison, Kyle, Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Kolton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Esther, and five siblings, Hugo, Evelyn, Eldora, Howard, and Donald.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christ Church Newman Center.
