Mary J. Withers 96-year-old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2012 at First United Church in Little Falls, MN with Rev. Damen Heitmann officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Friends may call from 10-11 A.M. on Friday at First United Church in Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN.
Mary Jean (Werner) Withers passed away peacefully on November 10th, 2012 surrounded by family and gracious care givers. Jean was born in Thief River Falls, MN on February 25th, 1916 to the late Henry and Margaret (Smith) Werner, where her parents taught in high school. In later years they moved to the St. Cloud area and finally to Little Falls. Jean was a graduate of Little Falls High School, a proud member of the United States Air Force, and the Minnesota School of Business. Her excitement for life and adventure also led her to be one of the first females to fly solo at the Little Falls Airport in the 1940s. Jean met and married Clair C. Withers in Fairfield, California in 1950. She was a member of the Little Falls Senior Center, Order of Eastern Star, and First United Church. Jean is survived by son, Henry (Marjory) Withers; sister, Margaret Blumer of CA; brother, Tom Werner of WI; and special friend, Ruth Brutcher of Little Falls. In addition, to many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the United States.
Preceded in death by husband Clair C. Withers, sisters Elizabeth S. Teitgen (Werner) and Ellen M.Silva (Werner), brothers Leslie J. Werner, Robert H.Werner and Carney S. Werner.
