Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids for Melvin L. Crandall, age 82, who passed away Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Dale Crandall will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Sunday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
Melvin was born April 9, 1931 in Dodge Center to Lyle & Dorothy (Sackett) Crandall. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mel married Jean Gohman on April 13, 1980 in Yankton, SD. He was a heavy equipment operator for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Mel was a life member of Akeley American Legion Post #363, member of IBEW Union #160 in Minneapolis, and the Northern Minnesota Draft Horse Association. He enjoyed draft horses, traveling, visiting with family and friends, farming, hunting, baseball, football, playing Santa Claus, playing cards, and country western music. Mel especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of St. Cloud; children, Nancy (Stan) Beug of Golden, CO, Dale of Anchorage, AK, Larry of Nevis, Julie of Nevis, Paul of Nevis, and Joe of Nevis; step-children, Debra Langenbau of Foley, Cindy (Kevin) Kloeppner of Annandale, and Ronald Olson of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters, George (Elaine) of Las Vegas, NV, Maxine Bunch of Phoenix, AZ, Dan (Sandy) of Tea, SD, Sharon Coffman of Dodge Center, and Cathy Lovelace of Byron; ex-son-in-law, Rob Erickson of Becker; 18 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Mel was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney; sisters and brothers, Eleanor, Viola, Violet, JoAnn, Earl, Phil, and Harvey.
