Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 31, 2012 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids, MN for Merle D. Tobin, age 72, who passed away Thursday Dec. 27th at the St. Cloud Hospital. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Benton Cemetery in Sauk Rapids, MN.
Merle Dean Tobin was born the fourth son of Joseph and Eldora (Mc Camly) Tobin in Sully County, Onida, SD on the fourth day of the fourth month (April 4th) in the year of our Lord 1940. He married Patricia Doren on July 22, 1962 in Pierre SD. Two children were born to this union, Wade and Natalie. Merle and Pat moved from Huron, SD to Sauk Rapids in 1969 where Merle worked on the Sartell Elementary School and an addition to the St. Cloud Hospital. They then moved to their current address in St. Cloud in 1972. Merle was a metal lather by profession and retired after 40 years as a member of Lathers Local 190 Minneapolis. He loved his family above all else and took pride that he shared his birthday with his first great-grandchild.
He is survived by wife, Pat-Doren Tobin and son, Wade, of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Geordan of St. Joseph, MN, Amber (Ben Muller) and Kelli (Jon Scherbing) Tobin of St. Cloud; great grandson, London Muller St. Cloud; brothers-in-law, Robert of Salt Lake City, Utah, Otis (Wanda) Doren of Pierre, SD, Robert (Louise) Sanders of Rapid City SD; sisters-in-law, Bev Doren of Pierre and Cathy (Wayne) Grubbs of Lower Brule, SD; Connie (Nick) Tobin of Spokane WA and Judy (Donnie) Tobin of Great Bend, KS; many friends and relatives.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; beloved infant daughter, Natalie; brothers, Richard, Jerry, Nick and Donnie; twin sisters and their husbands, Mary (Homer) Overstad, Mora, MN and Mattie (Neil) Neyhart, Gettysburg, SD; sisters and their husbands, Pat (Vern) Cunningham, West Salem, WI, Darlene (Ed) Sanders, Anoka, MN, Louise Sanders, Rapid City, SD, Deanna (Harold) Parks, Douglas, WY, and DeLoria Packard, Cheyenne, WY. Sisters-in-law, Sherri (Jerry) Tobin, Alyce (Doren) Field, and Luttie Langdeau; brothers-in-law, Charles (Joann Two Two) Doren, Rapid City, SD and Victor and Earl Langdeau, Lower Brule, SD.
Pall bearers will be Geordan Tobin, Lyal Doren, Christian Uecker, Jon Scherbing, Ben Muller and John Petrik.
Special thank you to St. Cloud Hospital Doctors and Staff of the Medical Progressive Care Unit and especially nurses, Jim, Nicole and Bernie for the wonderful care afforded Merle in his last four days of life, and also Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home.
Refreshments will be served at the Funeral Home following interment.
