Rachel Robinson was born on January 16, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia to Richard and Lora (Hnizda) Robinson. Rachel graduated from Apollo High School and then worked the rest of her life at WACOSA, Waite Park. Rachel suffered her entire life with a genetic form of muscular dystrophy, ultimately causing her death. She also suffered a seizure disorder causing severe mental retardation. Her disabilities led to care in a group home at the age of 13. Since 1989, she has resided at REM Fernwood, St. Cloud. Rachel was lovingly cared for all her life by her family and a wide assortment of professional staff to whom we owe her high quality of life despite her disabilities. We are forever grateful to God for the wonderful people who have worked with and gotten to know Rachel. They are truly angels wearing skin.
Rachel loved being out in the community attending community events such as basketball games and ice hockey. Rachel loved music, water, and any activity which stimulated her senses. Her favorite, at home activity, was basking in the sun while in a porch swing.
Survivors include her mother, Lora Robinson of Sauk Rapids; her sisters, Mila Robinson of North Haledon, New Jersey and Sandra Robinson of St. Paul, Minnesota; her grandniece Vienne Robinson also of New Jersey; her Aunt Frances Freeman of Lincoln, Nebraska, and her Uncle Mike Hnizda of Gravois Mills, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her father Richard Robinson in 2001.
Any memorial should be made to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sauk Rapids.
