Steven J. Anderson, 50

St. Joseph, Minnesota

July 10, 1962 - April 2, 2013

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, at Peace United Church of Christ in St. Cloud, for Steven J. Anderson, 50, of St. Joseph, who died April 2, 2013 after battling a cardiopulmonary disease for many years. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 and refreshments served immediately after the service. The Reverend Hal Spann will officiate. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Steve was born on July 10, 1962, in Little Falls to Edwin and Mary (Rasmussen) Anderson. He grew up in the Little Falls area and was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church by his grandfather, Rev. John Rasmussen.

Steve wore many hats in his life time - husband, father, son, brother, uncle, teacher, artist, musician, carpenter, and all around handy man. Steve loved to spend time outdoors, camping and traveling to new places with his family.

Teaching music was a lifelong passion for Steve. He began his career in western Minnesota and soon moved to Sartell where he met his wife Elizabeth of 21 years. For the first half of his career he taught middle school band in Sartell. His next adventure was St. John's Prep School where he built an outstanding orchestra and jazz program during his 8 year tenure. During his teaching career, he prided himself on seeking out performing opportunities for his students' motivation and enjoyment. He conducted numerous concert trips to the MN capital, took students on performance trips to Mexico and Puerto Rico, began the highly successful "Share the Spirit Concert" which is conducted each holiday season, and held fiddle camp/barn dances each summer. His last and most challenging endeavor was building an orchestra program from scratch at Cathedral High School. After 2 ½ short years, the Cathedral Youth Orchestra has grown to 40 members and encompasses students from many surrounding communities. He was an excellent teacher, touching the lives of hundreds of students daily; he will be greatly missed.

Steve is survived by: his wife Elizabeth of St. Joseph; children Ashley of St. Louis Park, Justin of St. Joseph; mother Mary (Hans) Roher of Little Falls; brother, Mark (Suzanne); sisters, Deb and Liz (Brian) Anderson; 9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
