Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Virgil F. Riley, age 72, of Richmond and formerly of St. Cloud. Virg went to heaven to be with his son Greg on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Virgil Helmin will officiate. Entombment will take place in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in St. Cloud with military honors.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Virg was born on June 16, 1940 in Freeport, Minnesota to Joseph and Julitta (Rosen) Riley. He served honorably in the United States Army
. Virg then married Doris A. Viere on June 19, 1965 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He was a teacher at Apollo High School. Virg was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, the Knights of Columbus Council #12098, American Legion Waite Park Silver Star Post #428, and past member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and camping. Virg loved the time spent with his friends, family and especially the grandchildren.
Virg is survived by his loving wife of 47 years; daughter, Jill (Rich) Torborg of Richmond; grandchildren, Matthew and Jenna; siblings, Val (Joan) Riley, Gladie Metzger, and Gerri (Ervie) Elfering; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg in 1996; and sister, Angie Olberding.
