Funeral services celebrating the life of Bernice K. Thommes, age 101, of Sauk Rapids will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel in Sauk Rapids. Bernice passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. Pastor Kristen Anderson of Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Chapel.

Bernice was born on February 5, 1911 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Christian and Martha (Schmidt) Tolzman. She married Leonard P. Thommes on April 7, 1983. Bernice was a member of the Robbinsdale Chapter #238 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud.

She is survived by grandchildren Rick, Mark, and Diane Sass, great-grandson Shane Sass, many nephews and nieces, as well as very many great and great-grand nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many good friends in places near and far and dear friends in the Good Shepherd Community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 2008; son, Richard Sass in 2011; brothers, Delbert and Kenton Tolzman; and sisters, Rezada Manthey, Verna Osterfeld, Esther Preussler, and Harriet Schroeder.
