You asked Maria to make me happy, Dad, and she has done that. We´ve had 16 years together now and our kids are doing great. You helped make that possible. Wish you were here to see it.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Gambill. He was best friends with my father, Professor David H. Overy, who is in the photo gallery. I will never forget the way he laughed and that he continued to call me "Davey" well into my adult years.

Is this the Edward Gambill who graduated from Rochester, MN High School in 1954? If so, I remember you at Lincoln Grade School in Rochester. You were my first love.

Another year....I am still missing you, Dad. I would give anything for some do-overs...but it ain't gonna happen. I reckon we will see each other again ere long. I am writing now...lots...You asked Maria to make me happy and she has done a pretty good job of that. I will be up all night writing on yet another government contract. At some point in the next couple of years I will be adding another book to the Gambill family shelf. I sort of hate writing, but I am pretty good at it (smile). I ain't over your loss yet. If you are up there looking down I suppose you know that. Rest in Peace, Dad. I wish you could visit us.

Rest in peace, Mr. Gambill. You raised a really good son who cares about people who have been discarded, and I know you are proud of him from heaven.

Guy, do you happen to know what your dad's favorite song was? I know Scott played his favorite song on the piano at his funeral...I'd love to know what song that is.
I would love to see more pics!
I miss your dad a lot....he was a good, kind man.

I have a whole bunch of photos of my Dad, going way back....I am going to scan them in and upload some of them here over time. Yeah, I know I look a lot like my father...more now than ever. Sometimes, when I look in the mirror it is like looking at him...which is very odd.

My father, Edward L. Gambill, passed late in 2010. He loved to fish. I would give anything to have one more hour with him to say the things I wish I would've said. It would have been his birthday a couple of days ago. In truth, I am still grieving for him. Dad, if there is a Heaven I hope to see you there one day....I would give anything to sit at the VFW with you one more time and talk about all the things we hedged around but never came right out and said. My son is now 23, but you know that already. I have Maria (and I am so glad you got to meet her). She told me that you told her to make me happy.....she has done that, Dad. We have three great children and now I live in Mexico. You know me....I almost never cry, at least not for years now. The few times I have wept in the past few years were over your loss. I still ain't over it yet and I doubt I ever will be. I have lost so many people in my life, but losing you and the impact it would have have been more than I can bear some days. If you are looking down or watching over me at all you have seen the impact your death had on me. I made you proud toward the end....you never told me that, but others did. I know it was not your way to say such things out loud. Dad, I miss you....you always see things more clearly with hindsight. I miss you and, again, I would give anything for one more hour with you.....Love, your son Guy

I am deeply sorry to hear about Dr. Gambill's death. His book, Uneasy Males, has been a great boost to the history of the men's movements in America, and an encouragement to my own research.

This message is for Scott....
Scott, what was your dad's favorite song (If I may ask)?

September 27, 2010

Hey Dad! I am glad the service went well today. You know I never played piano before a crowd before, so I was nervous but I played your favorite song, I didn't screw up, and everyone smiled at the end!

Love you and miss you!

Ed loved to fish. We went many times to the lakes south of Avon. In June, 1985, Ed and Dave Overy and I went to Basswood Lake in the BWCA, and we limited out! These pictures are from that time.
