Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Eugene P. "Gene" Klein, age 96, of Clearwater, who passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with military honors on Wednesday.

Family and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church in St. Cloud.

Gene was born on March 30, 1916 in St. Joseph, Minnesota to John and Antonia (Meyer) Klein. He served honorably in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Gene married Mary Ann Vogt on July 9, 1947. He was a barber all his life and served on the Barber Board for one term in St. Paul. Gene married Rita Osgood on June 24, 1994. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428, and the Knights of Columbus Council #12098.

He enjoyed gardening, his orchard, dancing, Vikings Football, politics, and storytelling. Gene especially treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

Gene is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Sharon (Roger) Montague, Dianne Klein, Debbie Reed, Pam (Gary Lilke) Klein, Mary Jean Wheeldon, Tina (Don) Flaherty, Lisa (Mike) Lawrence; grandchildren; great grandchildren; step-children, Duane (Rose) Osgood, Cindy (Mike) Wenner: brother and sisters, Charlotte Rusak, Dorothy Anderson and Everett Klein; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Ann in 1978; granddaughter, Valerie Kate Reed; brothers and sisters, Marcella Hollenkamp, Richard, Wilfred, Harold, Luella and Arthur; step-children, Billy Osgood, Teresa Orton, Jerry Osgood.

A Special Thank You to the Staff at the Community Living Center at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud for the care given to Gene.
