Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Ionella M. "Nellie" Blaske, age 90, of St. Cloud, who passed away at her home on Monday, May 21, 2012. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Nellie was born on July 7, 1921 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Vincent and Veronica (Hemmelgarn) Witschen. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1940. Nellie married Glenn H. Blaske Sr. on October 30, 1945 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Along with raising her children, Nellie worked 11 years at Witschen's Grocery and for 22 years at Fanny Farmer Candies. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Christian Women, St. Anne's Mission Group, St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428 Auxiliary, and the Sauk Rapids American Legion Unit #254 Auxiliary.
Nellie enjoyed quilting, playing cards with several different church groups, gardening, baking, and was an avid Twins Baseball fan. She especially cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen G. (Dick Zupan) Roske of Sauk Centre, Larry (Gloria) of Sauk Rapids, Bonnie (Lee) Fitzharris of St. Cloud, Gary (Gayle) of White Bear Lake, Wayne "Skip", and Tim of St. Cloud; daughter-in-law, Jean Routhier of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Michelle, Marc, Pamela, Susan, Larry Glenn, Jennifer, Sarah, Valerie, Christopher, Leslie, Carl and Karen; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella "Mousie" Symalla, Alvina "Vini" Sauer, Rose Mary "Rosie" Borgen, LuAnn Billig, and Annette "Netty" Kahlhamer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn Sr. in 1971; son, Glenn Jr. in 2004; son-in-law, Larry David Roske; brothers, Jerome, Richard, and Eldon "Butch."
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
