St. Cloud

July 2, 1939 - July 16, 2013

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids for Joseph A. Pappenfus, age 74 of St. Cloud, who passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Tuesday. Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate and burial will be with full military honors at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids and also after 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning at the funeral home.

Joseph Anthony Pappenfus was born on July 2, 1939 in St. Cloud to James and Ida (Patka) Pappenfus. Joe lived in the Sauk Rapids area until he was 16. He moved to Wisconsin, where he enlisted in the Navy. On September 25, 1962 he was united in marriage to Barbara Schneider in Yorkville, IL. Upon his return from serving in the military, Joe moved back into the St. Cloud area. He worked for DeZurik in Sartell for a few years as a mechanic and later became a firefighter for the St. Cloud Fire Department. Joe was involved in Boy Scouts of America, as a troop leader. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, camping and being with his family. Joe was a loving, fun, kind hearted man. He loved being with his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Barb, of St. Cloud; daughters and son, Debra (Curtis) Wilken of Anderson, IN, Sandy (Mike) Anderson of St. Cloud, Steven (Colleen) of Buffalo, Jodi Pappenfus of Luxemburg, Lorie (Allen) Schreifels of Cold Spring, Vicky (Graham) Bruce of Flourance, MS and Nicole Pappenfus of St. Cloud; sisters, Carol Abraham of Sauk Rapids and Mary (Hurley) Hommerding of Rice; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger, Richard, Leonard and Donald and sisters, Betty Breitzman and Donna Winters.
