Kenneth W. Berry, 93 of St. Cloud died on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Ken passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and two of his children. Ken was very devoted to his faith, his family, and his friends. A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 4:00 PM at the Reallife Great Room 6670 Northwood Lane, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Ken was born on November 19, 1919 in Chorley, Lancashire, England, the eldest son of John and Emily (Lewis) Berry. Ken apprenticed at Leyland Motors for three years prior to entering the Royal Navy in 1939. He married June Cross on March 27, 1948 during his military service. Ken's enlistment included WWII and the Korean War before an honorable discharge in 1952.
Ken and June had two children in England before emigrating to Canada in 1957. Their third child was born in Canada in 1960. Ken was a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Marine Engineers, and Professional Engineers of Canada. His career brought him to the United States in 1962 where he served with the Beloit Corporation for twenty years. His career accomplishments included numerous awards and two U.S. Patents.
Ken was a creative man who throughout his life experimented with many artistic mediums. These included woodworking and furniture building, beautiful watercolors, pen and ink sketches, and charcoal drawings. His work was often exhibited in art shows and was used in fundraisers at the Beloit Hospital. He taught art classes into his late eighties. Later in his life Ken also became passionate for model shipbuilding. He built seven ships altogether. His pride and joy was a replica of the HMS Victory, a 42 inch model of Admiral Nelson's flagship that took him eighteen month's to build.
Ken is survived by June, his wife of 65 years, and his son John (Gabrielle) Berry of Rifton, New York, daughter Karen Vessels of Fayetteville, North Carolina, daughter Alison (Ken) Auer of St. Cloud, Minnesota; grandchildren Max Berry, Ian (Alexis) Berry, Rachel (Eric) Leonard, Dylan Mayasich, Miles Berry, and seven great-grandchildren.
