Lou Ann Dickhaus, age 71 of Melrose, died peacefully on Wed., Jan. 30, 2013, at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, MN.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Mon., Feb. 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, MN. at 11:00 AM.

Lou Ann (Fabeck) Dickhaus was born on Feb. 4, 1941 in Freeport, MN., to Nicholas and Lucy (Linn) Fabeck. She lived in Melrose where she worked first as a dental assistant, then as the first female letter carrier in Melrose, and finally as the Postmaster of New Munich and Freeport. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring on Feb 4, 2000. Lou Ann was a member of the National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS), serving as a state officer for 4 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Melrose Historical Society, the Elder Network, and served as a Foster Grandparent volunteer.

Lou Ann was united in marriage to Alcuin Dickhaus on Nov. 24, 1962 in Freeport, MN. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Alcuin Jr., brother Nicholas Jr., parents, Nicholas and Lucy Fabeck, sisters, Lillian Beuning, Marie Vorget, Dorthy Kolb, and husband, Alcuin.

Lou Ann is survived by her children, Sharon and (Jeff) Wessel of Melrose, Michael and (Denise) Dickhaus of St. Michael, and Robert and (Kris) Dickhaus of Melrose, and her 7 grandchildren, Mindy, Abby, Wesley, David, Jacob, Markus, and Eddie.
