A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre for Marcella "Sally" Beste Quade who died peacefully surrounded by her family at CentraCare Health System Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Christian Mothers will pray at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
Marcella Evelyn Calkins was born December 12, 1928 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Lester and Fern (Matthews) Calkins. She grew up on a farm in Todd County and attended country school for eight years. She continued her schooling and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1946. Sally worked at the public library, as a receptionist at the Sauk Centre Clinic and as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. She married Raymond Beste on May 9, 1950 at the St. Paul's Rectory in Sauk Centre. While raising five of her children, Sally worked at Fingerhut in Sauk Centre, Sarepta Home and the Sauk Centre Senior High School as a cook. Raymond passed away suddenly on December 18, 1981. Sally then married Eugene Quade on August 31, 1985 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Eugene died on September 7, 1986.
Sally is survived by her children, Vernon (Barb) Beste of Sauk Centre, Barbara (Bill) Burns of Hanley Falls, Ronald Beste of Minneapolis, Kenneth (Terri) Beste of Sauk Centre, and Brenda (Warren) Stone of Sauk Centre; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Lewis (Leora) Calkins of Sauk Centre.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Fern Calkins; first husband, Raymond Beste; and second husband, Eugene Quade.
