October 13, 1930 - May 10, 2012
Melvin Grell, 81-year-old resident of Pierz, MN formerly of St. Paul, MN passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 14, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating, concelebrating with Father Kenneth Brenny. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery in Pierz. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz and from 9 to 10 AM on Monday also at the funeral chapel. Christian Mothers Rosary at 4:30 PM followed by Parish Prayers at 7 PM on Sunday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Military Rites will be conducted by the Pierz American Legion Post #341.
Melvin H. Grell was born on October 13, 1930 in Pierz, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Donek) Grell. He graduated from Little Falls High School. Continuing his schooling, Melvin graduated from St. John's University Collegeville in 1952. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After Melvin's honorable discharge he graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. Melvin was an attorney for American Family Insurance for over 40 Years. He was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #0341. Melvin was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. Melvin is survived by 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Grell; brothers, Tony, Jack, Joseph, Victor and Clarence.
Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Nona (Grell) Terrahe, Sandra (Grell) Neutzling, Victor Grell II, Elizabeth (Grell) Bloom, Charles Grell, Joyce (Grell) Donabauer and Jon Grell. Memorials are preferred to St. John's University and Poor Clare's Monastery. The family extends a special thanks for care and support to the staff of the Pierz Villa and St. Croix Hospice.
