Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Living Waters Lutheran Church, Sauk Rapids for Philip R. Pederson, age 73, who passed away Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Todd Mattson and Rev. Denise Hanson will officiate and burial will be at East Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Philip was born Oct. 23, 1939 in Starbuck to Julian & Ada (Ronnei) Pederson. He married Elizabeth (Sundgren) Houston on Oct. 5, 1997 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. Philip has lived in Sauk Rapids since 1969. He was an Industrial Tech teacher at Sauk Rapids Rice Middle School for over 35 years. Philip was a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church and hosted the annual Christmas Eve in a barn service at his farm. He served on the Benton County Fair Board for 44 years, was a lifelong 4-H participant, was the 2008 Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year, was a member of the Sauk Rapids Sportsman Club, and a former member of the Sauk Rapids Lions. Philip raised and cared for animals, such as llamas, donkeys and cattle. He coached basketball, softball and volleyball and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, especially his farm and cabin up north in Hackensack. Phil could build anything and was always in the middle of multiple projects. Phil enjoyed helping others, was very thoughtful and fair. He had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Sauk Rapids; daughter and sons, Heidi of Blaine, Bruce (Cindy) of Rice, Dan (Kelli) of Sauk Rapids; step children, Heidi (Brooks) Welch of St. Paul, Heather Houston of St. Paul, and Matt (Jean) Houston of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Jessica, Scott, Nick, Kayla, Kennedy, Bella, Liam, McKenzie, Reagan, and Jack; brothers and sisters, Roger of Starbuck, Jerry of Hawley, Sharon Boldenow of Florida, Dianne Peterson of Willmar, Helen "Jeanie" Pladson of Starbuck, Rollo of Rogers, Cori Becker of Richfield, Florine Kallenbach of Maddock, ND, Harvey of Starbuck and beloved camel, Caspar. Philip was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty Nordaune.
Memorials are preferred to Living Waters Lutheran Church, Sauk Rapids for Luther Crest Bible Camp scholarships.
