Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Richard Vernon Carlson, age 88, of Minneapolis who died Friday at Catholic Elder Care of Minneapolis. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church in Sauk Rapids. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home of Sauk Rapids.
Dick was born October 3, 1924 in Staples to Earnest & Margaret (Thurner) Carlson. He married Ardell Ann Paschke on November 29, 1947 in Staples. He lived in Sauk Rapids most of his life and moved to Ramsey in 2002. Dick was a Design Engineer for the State of Minnesota Highway Department for 44 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked part-time for Hardrives for 20 years. Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a Tec Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in the Philippines during WWII. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, playing cards and spending time at Lake Shamineau near Motley. Dick loved visiting with family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa and was very supportive of his family.
Survivors include his wife Ardell of Minneapolis; children, Becky (Perry) Thorvig of St. Anthony, Jim (Linda) of Scottsdale, AZ, Ken (Margaret) of Champlin, Don (Melonie) of Big Lake, Julie (Mark) Gross of St. Joseph, Lisa (Wanda Baas) Carlson of New Brighton; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward and sisters, Lorraine Fearing and Florence Knosalla.
