Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Rita E. Wocken, age 89, of St. Cloud will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at St. Mary's Cathedral Lower Church in St. Cloud. Rita passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at St. Benedict's Center in St. Cloud. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Burial will be in St. Boniface Parish Cemetery, Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Rita was born on August 11, 1923 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Louise (Schmid) and Charles Wampach. She was united in marriage to Roger J. Wocken on April 14, 1948 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. Rita attended St. Mary's Cathedral Grade School then Cathedral High School graduating in 1941 with Roger. She attended and graduated from the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing Cadet program in 1945. Rita worked at the St. Cloud Hospital for 26 years, and then moved to Dr. James Kelly's clinic until retiring in 1982. Rita was a girl scout leader, a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Christian Women and a school of nursing funeral escort.
Rita loved to sing and knit.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters, Andrea (Don) Voigt of St. Cloud, Linda (Gary) Edington of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Charles "Chuck" (Barb) of Sauk Rapids, John (Laura) of St. Cloud and Connie (Rory) Hall of Las Vegas, Nevada. She has 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 1991; her parents, a brother and a sister.
Rita's family would like to thank the staff of St. Benedict's 4th floor for the exceptional care of their mother.
