Roger Christman, a man with a big heart and a gentle soul died December 20, 2016 at his home near Fairbanks, Alaska. Roger was born March 12, 1948 in St. Cloud, MN to Roman and Bernadine Christman. He graduated from Technical High School in 1966 and was drafted into the US army in 1967. He served in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry division where he was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1969 and returned to the St. Cloud area. Roger moved to Alaska in 1972 to be around his brother Denis and to work on the Alaskan pipeline. When the pipeline ended he attended Hobart Institute of Welding in Ohio and worked as a welder on many large projects around the United States. Roger returned to Alaska in 1982 and lived in Salcha for the next 34 years.Roger loved moose hunting, salmon fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. Roger is preceded in death by his parents and Brother Denis. Roger is survived by his brothers and sisters who live in Minnesota : Larry & Debra Christman, Linda Penniston, Rick & Diane Christman, Mary Beth & Bill Boerger, Brian & Terri Christman, Allan & Sarah Christman, and his brother Jeff who lives in Salcha, Alaska. Roger is also survived by his Brother Denis's son Gabe and his children who were an important part of Roger's life in Salcha. Roger was a much loved uncle to 14 nieces and nephews.Interment services will be held at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minnesota on Friday Jan. 13th at 11:00 o'clock.
