Monticello

Nov. 14, 1935 ~ Nov. 5, 2013

Russell James Friesen, age 77 of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at Centra Care Health of Monticello. Visitation will be Friday November 8, 2013 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 AM at Lake Union Evangelical Covenant Church, 74562 CSAH 19, South Haven, MN. Pastor Eric Marx will officiate. Private interment will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens of Crystal. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.

Russell was born near Windom, MN on November 14, 1935 to Henry and Chrystal (Schminowski) Friesen, the third of nine children. He served in the US Navy during the 1950's. On January 18, 1964 he was married to Betty Selby, and he inherited three children Monica Albert, Ann Dravis and William Cooper. Betty passed away on June 4, 1998. On November 13, 1999 he was married to Nancy Dahlen, and he inherited two sons, Jeremy and John Dahlen. Russ worked most of his life as a truck driver for Pioneer Paper and Briggs Transportation. Russ and Betty were active at First Baptist Church of Monticello, and currently Russ and Nancy were active at Lake Union Evangelical Church in South Haven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Chrystal; wife Betty; son William; infant brother Weldon, and brothers Richard and Raymond. Russell is survived by his wife, Nancy; children Monica Albert, Ann Dravis, step sons Jeremy Dahlen and John Dahlen; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brothers Robert, Ronald and Randy; sisters Carol (Dave) Groff, Sandy (Doug) Buchan; and many nieces and nephews.
