Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel for Vernon G. Kaeter, age 80, of St. Wendel who passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Mark Stang will officiate. Entombment will take place in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in St. Cloud.
Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Church in St. Wendel. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Vernon was born on September 5, 1931 in St. Augusta, Minnesota to Norbert and Loretta (Gohman) Kaeter. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Theresa Kampa on July 2, 1953 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St . Cloud. Vernon worked the majority of his life in Maintenance at Frigidaire in St. Cloud as well as dairy farming in St. Wendel. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #3628, and the St. Cloud V.F.W. Post #428.
Vernon enjoyed swimming, woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping, biking and just spending time outside. His greatest joy was the time spent with his family.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; children, Kathy (Jerome) Schueler of Holdingford, Randy (Deb) of St. Wendel, Debbie (LeRoy) Lashinski of Avon, Judy (Robert) Hartung of Freeport, John of California, Rodney (Barb) of Rice, Kevin (Ann) of Alexandria, Keith of St. Cloud, Shelly (John) Heard of Aiken, SC, Dean (Amber) of Avon, Darrell (Jennifer) of Avon; 31 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Sylvester; and infant children, Mary and Thomas.
A Special Thank You to the Staffs at the St. Cloud Hospital and the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center for the care given to Vernon.
