Albert "Big Al" M. Wlaznak, 93

Sauk Rapids

July 6, 1920 - May 12, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Monday, May 19, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids for Albert "Big Al" M. Wlaznak, age 93, who passed away Monday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. The Sauk Rapids American Legion post #254 will pray at 5:45 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Al was born July 6, 1920 to George and Frances (Czervinski) Wlaznak in St. Cloud. On November 13, 1948 he married Rosalie Schlangen at St. Mary's Cathedral. Al courageously served our county in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a track inspector for the Great Northern Railroad for 44 years before retiring in 1985.  Al was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sauk Rapids American Legion post #254. Al enjoyed telling Navy stories, hunting, woodworking, especially making croquet sets for his family and creating reindeer, Christmas trees and swans. Al had a great sense of humor and was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.

 Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosalie; children, Susan Walters of St. Cloud, Ruth (Patrick) Boyle of Eagan, Jane Vise of St. Cloud, David (Myong) of Royalton, Mary (Rowland) Buckland of France, James (Debra) of Sauk Rapids, Carolyn Wlaznak of Minneapolis, Monica (Michael) Charlebois of Pinehurst, NC, Laura Wlaznak of Minneapolis; grandchildren, LeeAnn, Meredith, Shannon, Kelsey, Ian, Aaron; great granddaughter, Samantha; sister, Virginia McDonald of Sartell. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teri Davis; brothers, Anthony, Nicholas and Roman; and sister, Mary Albertini.
