Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30PM Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in St. Cloud celebrating the life of Loretta C. (Schuman) Pflepsen, age 96, who died peacefully Sunday at St. Benedict's Center in St. Cloud. The Rev. Al Stangl will officiate; interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in Cold Spring. Friends and relatives may call from 3-8PM Thursday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and 1 hour prior to services Friday at the church in St. Cloud. The Daughters of Isabella will pray at 4:30PM followed by parish prayers at 5:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Loretta was born November 20, 1917 in Maynard, Minnesota to Jacob & Martha (Rhode) Schuman. She was the second youngest of 12 children. Loretta graduated from Clara City High School and Minneapolis Business College. She met Nicholas Pflepsen in Minneapolis during his service in the Army. They married on May 9, 1942 at St. Clara Church in Clara City, MN. Nick and Loretta lived in Dubuque, Iowa for seven years. In 1953, Nick and Loretta moved to St. Cloud, MN. Loretta will be remembered for her active life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. Stephen's Mission Group, Daughters of Isabella, St. Paul's Christian Women, Eagles Aerie # 622 Auxiliary, a life member of the VFW Post #428 Auxiliary and a charter member of the 120 Dance Club. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, dancing, playing cards, time at the lake and traveling.
Survivors include her five children, Gary (Jan) Pflepsen of Fresno, CA, Michael (fiancé, Jean Vacura) of Duluth, MN, Lee (Kris) of St. Cloud, Karen (Jim) Meinz of St. Cloud, Mark of Sacramento, CA, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren expected this summer. Loretta is also survived by her longtime companion, Jim Mueller.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nick, December 11, 1976, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pflepsen and 11 siblings.
Loretta's family would like to thank St. Benedict's Village, Court and Senior Community for their continued support and care during the past 16 years.
