Eden Valley

June 12, 1933 - June 19, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley for Virgil H. Rettig, age 81, who passed away Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil, OSB will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley and one hour prior to the services Monday also at the church in Eden Valley.  Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Eden Valley.

Virgil was born June 12, 1933 in Brownton to Bernard & Elsie (Grunwaldt) Rettig.  He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.  Virgil married Beverly Arens on June 26, 1954 in Watkins.  He worked as a school bus driver/mechanic for the Eden Valley and Kimball School Districts for over 45 years.  He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church where he served as an usher, and was also a member of Eden Valley American Legion Post #381.  Virgil served on the Eden Valley City Council for 13 years, the Sauk River Watershed Board for 14 years, and the Eden Valley Fire Department for over 20 years.  He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening, four wheeling, morning coffee with the guys, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Eden Valley; children, Kathy Mausehund of Eden Valley, Diane (Wally) Eisenschenk of Clearwater, Sherry (Paul) Thompson of Starbuck, Jim (Roxanne) of Pillager, and David (Jody) of Perham; brother, Freddie of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Kristina (Brian) Wall, Kyle Krueger, Kevin Krueger (fiancé, Shannon Robbins), Wes (Michelle) Eisenschenk, Keith Eisenschenk, Mary Eisenschenk (fiancé, Adam Bongard), Scott (Bonnie) Barton, Steven (Alex) Barton, and Tyler Rettig; great grandchildren, Mylie, Gemma, and Taya Wall, Elliott and Bailee Eisenschenk, Madison, Zachary, Nicholas, and Zoey Barton; step grandchildren, Steven Renn, Lyla (Brandon) Martin, Cassandra Wientjes, and Kelly Davis; and step great grandchildren, Brylee Martin, Ryder and Reese Davis.  Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dale Mausehund; great granddaughter, Bella Rose Eisenschenk; and brothers, Roland and Raymond.
