Robert "Bob" U. Weitzel Jr., 88

St. Cloud

January 3, 1926 - August 15, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday August 23, 10 :30 a.m. at The Church of St. Paul, St. Cloud for Robert "Bob" Weitzel Jr., age 88, who passed away Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. The Rev. Al Stangl will officiate and burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans cemetery, Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday August 22, 2014 at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and after 9:30 am Saturday at the church in St. Cloud. St. Paul's parish prayers will be at 5:00 p.m., Knights of Columbus council #961 will pray at 5:30p.m., Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992 will pray at 6:00 p.m.  followed by the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622 at 6:30 p.m.     

Bob was born in St. Cloud to the late Robert and Matilda (Buttweiler) Weitzel Sr. He married Jean Devine August 18, 1956 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII assigned to the USS Lindsey and completed his military assignment during the Korean War. Bob began his employment at The Great Northern Railroad and moved on to work for Bankers Systems in sales and management for twenty seven years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Church of St. Paul, the Sauk Rapids VFW Post #6992, the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, Knights of Columbus council #961 and a sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Bob enjoyed the great outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, he did carpentry and could fix anything. He was a sports enthusiast, fan of the old North Stars. He was also a green thumb gardener. Most of all Bob cherished his family, he was very involved with his grandchildren, skyping all his grandchildren while they were at college, and watching his family grow at the family bonding place on Big Birch Lake since 1970.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean; children, Michele Weitzel, of Chaska, Greg Weitzel of St. Cloud; and four grandchildren, Brenden (Vanessa Allen) Green, Minneapolis, Ashlyn (Mike Schreiner) Green, Chaska, Andrea(Kyle McCartan) Green, Dallas, TX and Brett (Stephanie McNamee) Green, of Elk, WA; great grandson, Emmett Green; Brothers, William "Bill" (Dolores) Weitzel, Wahpeton, ND, John (Mary) Weitzel, of St. Cloud; brother-in-law, William "Bill" Clemens, St. Cloud; and many nieces and nephews and their children.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Siblings: Virginia Clemens, Anna Mae White, LaVonne Weitzel, brother-in-law; Robert White Sr. and his grandson Scott Green on July 4, 1986.
