Reverend Peter Dominic Snyers was born on June 8, 1925, in Leiden, The Netherlands. He was the son of Henry and Catherine Van Gaalen Snyers. Father Snyers attended St. Peter's Parochial School, Leiden, The Netherlands, and Gymnasium of the Holy Cross and College, Uden, The Netherlands. He received his seminary training at Saint Paul Seminary, Saint Paul, MN and St. John's Seminary, Collegeville, MN. Father Snyers was ordained by The Most Reverend Peter W. Bartholome at Saint Mary's Cathedral, Saint Cloud, MN on December 21, 1953. He celebrated his First Mass in Saint Mark's Church, St. Paul, MN on December 27, 1953.
Father Snyers served in the following pastoral assignments in the Diocese of Saint Cloud: administrator, Immaculate Conception Church, Rice, February 1954-March 1954; associate pastor, St. Mary's Church, Breckenridge, March 1954-June 1958; pastor, St. Kathryn's Church, Ogilvie, June 1958-June 1965; St. Louis Church, Foreston, June 1965-July 1968; Assumption Church, Eden Valley, July 1968-July 1980; St. Mary's Church, Holdingford, July 1980-July 1995; St. Hedwig's Church, Holdingford, July 1980-July 1995; administrator, St. John Cantius Church, St. Cloud, July 1995-September 1995; pastor St. John Cantius Church, St. Cloud, September 1995-July 2001. Father Snyers retired July 2, 2001.
Father Snyers received many awards while serving as Chaplain for the Boy Scouts of America.
Father Snyers died on January 19, 2012, at the Country Manor, Sartell, MN. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Church of Saint John Cantius, St. Cloud, MN. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Church of Saint John Cantius, St. Cloud, MN with the Most Reverend John F. Kinney presiding. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Father Snyers is survived by his brother, Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Andrew and Joseph, and sister, Theresa.

I remember my Uncle Pete as a man who loved to travel, My cousin Hans and I we made a great travel through USA and a few years later again with my mother (the sister Teresa of my uncle)When I was in Edenvalley I saw with a dedicated reverend he was for the people in Edenvalley. Now he is with God and his sister, parents and two brothers. Thank you for all you did in the last years and last days of his live. I feel sad I couldn't come to the USA because I was laying in the Hospital.Mine condolences to you all.

I remember Father Snyers very well. He was my area representative in 1982 /83 when I was an exchange student. We shared many good times together. Sure he will find peace.
