Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids for Elizabeth J. "Betty" Werner, age 88, formerly of Benton Place Apartments, Rice who passed away Friday surrounded by loved ones at Riverside Assisted Living in Royalton. Rev. Janine Olson will officiate and a private burial at Dawn Valley Memorial Park in Bloomington will take place at a later date. Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Betty was born March 21, 1924 in La Crosse, WI. In 1935 her family moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from South High School in 1941. After graduation she worked for the telephone company. Betty married Gordon "Gordy" Werner on June 22, 1943 in San Francisco, CA where Gordy's ship , The USS Saratoga was docked for battle repairs. After WW II, the family moved to Milwaukee, WI and then to Detroit, MI. Betty worked in the Investment Security Department at Packard Motor Corporation. In 1950 the family returned to Minneapolis where Betty worked at Printing, Inc. until 1971. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business and received her degree in accounting. Upon graduation she was employed by Horner Waldorf, which later became Champion International until her retirement in 1986. Betty was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She loved children and was the ultimate dog lover. Reading was her passion. She also enjoyed crafting, knitting and sewing. She touched so many lives with her kind, loving and generous ways.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Mary Jayne (Jerry) Borene of Royalton; her honorary son, Dr. Craig (Susan) Pierce of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Todd (Pam) Olson, Troy Olson, Sheila Borene, Charles Werner, Jr. and Kevin Pierce; great grandchildren, Alex and Alyssa Olson, DJ Olson and Devan Borene. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrol and Lillian (Carlson) Brown; husband, Gordy Werner; sons, Charles and Richard Werner.
A loving thank you to all who provided such excellent care at Riverside Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice. They are and always will be our special angels who surrounded us the last couple of years through her journey.
