Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Norman M. Scherer, age 82, of St. Cloud, who died on Friday at the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center. Rev. Joe Backowski will officiate. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends may call on Monday between 4:00-8:00 PM at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and on Tuesday one hour prior to services at the Church. Parish Prayers will be at 6:00 PM.

Norm was born November 4th, 1930 in St. Joseph to Joseph and Marie (Weinand) Scherer. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Eileen Hennen on May 22nd, 1956 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rockville. Norm lived in Central MN his whole life. He was employed as a senior accountant for Stearns County and the State of Minnesota, serving most recently at the Minnesota Correctional Facility. He retired in 1990. Norm was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Council 7057, Moose Lodge 1400, Eagles Aerie # 622, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Fr. Pierz Assembly # 530, Cold Spring Catholic Order of Foresters, Sauk Rapids American Legion Post # 254, Cold Spring Maennerchor, and life member and officer of the St. Cloud Musicians Union.

Norm's favorite hobbies included golf, celebrating his German Heritage, dancing to old time music, attending Oktoberfests, traveling, hobby farming and playing in various old time music bands. He was a member of the Merry Makers Band for many years. Norm treasured the time he could spend with family, grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife Eileen of 56 years, children, Deborah Simon (Gene) Cold Spring, Dan Scherer (Brenda) St. Joseph, Susan Hinnenkamp (Dale) St. Joseph, 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Spychala (Gary), Jessica Booth (Eric), Stephen Simon (Stephanie), Alisha Simon, Rachael Hinnenkamp (Zack Bialka), Hannah Hinnenkamp and Ben Hinnenkamp, 5 great-grandchildren, Payton and Olivia Spychala, Alayna and Liam Booth and Ella Eileen Simon, brothers and sister, Eldred Scherer, Detroit Lakes, Wilbert "Billy" Scherer , Garrison, Ervin Scherer (Dorothy) St. Cloud, and Doreen Rennie, Waite Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene and Marvin, and sister-in-laws, Myra and Betty Scherer.

The family would especially like to thank the staffs at Assumption Campus in Cold Spring, St. Cloud Hospital and St. Cloud Veteran Administration Medical Center for their compassionate care.
