Jack grew up on a cheese farm in Argonne, WI and graduated from Pulaski High School in 1941. He served in World War II as a machinist mate and submariner from March, 1943 to January, 1946. Jack graduated from the University of MN with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. He met the love of his life, Rajah, when she worked as secretary in the Plant Pathology Department at the University of MN. They were married on May 5, 1951.
Jack was a successful entrepreneur, establishing Turf Supply Co. in the year 1971. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an excellent role model to his grandchildren. His generous spirit lead to his widespread involvement in the community to include: The Serra Club, The Knights of Columbus, and his parish community of St. Joseph's in West St. Paul, to name a few. Jack was knighted as a commander with Star in the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rajah, and their five children Michael, Dekalb, IL; Melanie (Christian) Schmidt, St. Cloud, MN; David (Karen), Minnetrista, MN; John (Susan), St. Cloud, MN; and Amelia (Richard) Daniels, Eau Claire, WI. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, his brother, James, sister, Margaret and many dear friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents Conrad and Ruth Kolb and sister Alice.
The family would like to thank Quiet Oaks Hospice in St. Augusta, MN and the staff at St. Benedict's Senior Center in St. Cloud, MN for their loving care and support.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1154 Seminole Ave @ Butler, West St. Paul. A visitation will be held 3 - 6 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013 at West Funeral Home, 1051 Robert St., West St. Paul and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
