Aloysius "Al" E. Helmin, 84

Rice

June 22, 1929 - March 18, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice for Aloysius "Al" E. Helmin, age 84, who passed away Tuesday at his home. Rev. Thomas Becker will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and one hour prior to the services Saturday also at the church. Knights of Columbus Bishop Busch Council #9138 will pray at 4:30 p.m., followed by parish prayers with Rev. Virgil Helmin at 5:00 p.m. Friday at the church in Rice. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.

Aloysius Helmin was born June 22, 1929 in Gilman to Adam & Selma (Imbiorski) Helmin. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Al married Renee Gottwalt on July 13, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. They lived on the Iron Range before moving to Rice in 2004. Al worked as a mason for over 50 years, most recently with Kasella Concrete in Morrill, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Buhl, Sauk Rapids VFW Post #6992, and the Kinney City Council. Al enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and spending time outdoors. He was a kind, quiet, and loving person who loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Renee of Rice; son and daughters, Greg of Rice, Pamela (Paul) Boswell of Grand Rapids, Paulette (Paul) Bailey of Apple Valley, Karla (Joe) Lewis of Arpin, WI, and Suzanne (Gary) Boettner of Alexandria; brothers and sisters, Peter of Foley, Josephine Kvittem of Rochester, Imelda Lieser of Paynesville, Sylvester (Jean) of Foley, Ann Sluss of Circle Pines, Frank (Elaine) of Foley; grandchildren, Mitchell, Brett, Austin, Kristina, Adam, Andrew, Dominic, Justin, Jake, Brittany, Courtney, Paul, Isaac and Samuel; 4 great grandchildren and one on the way. Al was preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtis; brother, Chet; sisters, Bernadette Helmin, Odelia Helmin, Colette Korneck; and two infant sisters.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Cloud Hospital Hospice for the excellent and loving care that was given to Al.
