Dr. James G. Marmas, age 85, resident of Nisswa, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at his home. Jim was born July 11, 1929 in Virginia, MN to Gust and Angela (Fitili) Marmas.

Jim grew up on the iron range and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, MN. where he was president of his senior class. He then proceeded onto college at Virginia with a business degree and graduated in 1949 from there he went to St. Cloud State from 1949-1951 where he met the love of his life Ruth P. Leinonen and married her in 1952. Then went to the U of M from 1954-1956 and Jim received his doctorate in Business Administration from Stanford University in 1961. Jim taught highschool at Little Fork, MN from 1951-1953, started at SCSU in 1964 teaching business and in 1966 Dr. James Marmas became Professor and Dean of the school of Business until his retirement in 1987. Dr. James Marmas was instrumental in getting the SCSU school of business accreditted and for his diligent efforts Gov. Rudy Perpich issued a proclamation stating May 20th James Marmas Day in Minnesota. He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club and is in Who's Who in America. These are just a few of his many accomplishments.

Survivors include; children James M. Marmas, Lynn Studanski, Brenda Marmas, grandchildren; James W. Marmas, Catrina Mott, great grandchildren Ethan J. Marmas, brother George G. Marmas, sister Bess Marmas.

Preceded in death by his wife Ruth P. Leinonen Marmas in 1973, father Gust Marmas, mother Angela Fitili Marmas, sister Barbara, brother Chris Marmas.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16th at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa with Rev. Kari Williamson officiating. Burial will be held Friday, October 17th in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia MN. A visitation will be at the church one hour prior to Services.
