Wayne Murray Obituary

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Wayne Elden Murray, 76, of Kittery Point, Maine and Longboat Key, Florida passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, after a battle with cancer that he fought with courage and grace. He was born in Concord, N.H., on December 17, 1940, the son of Elden John Murray and June Burney Murray.

He graduated from Central High School in Manchester, N.H., class of 1959, later served in the U. S. Air Force, graduated from the University of N.H., and earned a law degree from the University of Maine. He practiced law in the seacoast region of N.H., for many years and later started a family-run frozen dessert business, Sweet Scoops.

He leaves behind his partner, Jackie Adams; his son Brian Murray and partner Denise Johannesson and grandson August (Gus) Murray of Hampton, N.H.; his daughter Brigid Murray and son-in-law Michael Coty of Portsmouth, N.H.; Brian and Brigid's mother, Jane Kavanaugh of Rye, N.H.; his sister Barbara Murray of Farmington, N.H.; and many extended family members. Wayne's loving canine companions, Tico and Tommy, will miss their special time and long walks with him.

He is predeceased by his mother, father, and step-mother, Frances McCann Murray.

Wayne lived life with gusto, with a love for the sea and endless aquatic adventures. He loved skiing, traveling, art, gardening, dogs and reading. He was a member of the Portsmouth Yacht Club and The New Castle Yacht Club, of which he was a founding member. He loved spending time with his fellow "Cormorants" especially his good friend Andy Courteau. Wayne was a man of integrity, honesty, and generosity who is deeply loved and will be missed by many.

SERVICES: A private service will be held by the family now, and a celebration of life will be held in the spring at the Portsmouth Yacht Club for friends and family. Thanks to all his wonderful doctors at Dana-Farber and the Florida Cancer Specialists, and to the amazing nurses of York Hospital Hospice, especially Maria. Memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or to a Humane Society of your choice.
