EXETER - Alexander McCallum, 76, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at the Exeter Hospital. He was born September 30, 1940, in Darlington, UK, son of the late George William McCallum and Christina (Crombie) McCallum.

Alex grew up in the United Kingdom. He graduated from St. Peter's at York Preparatory School and Oxford University where he received his degree in geography. In 1979, he married Karen Thomas and they lived in New York City's Greenwich Village for many years. In 1993, they moved to Exeter, N.H. Alex enjoyed a successful career in the financial world. He started out his career in financial journalism, worked later for a financial public relations firm for several years, before starting and running his own business named Alex McCallum & Associates for over ten years. Because Alex truly enjoyed working, he was still currently managing financial websites, wrote newsletters about insurance asset management and Market about financial futures.

Alex was an active member of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Exeter. The church was a large part of his life and he will be sadly missed there.

Alex was a true people person and had made many friendships in his life. His hobbies when he wasn't working included reading and watching sports. In his youth, Alex played quite a bit of Rugby and Cricket.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen "Kate" McCallum, four children and their spouses, son, Jamie and Sue McCallum, son, Rory and Mayka McCallum, daughter, Justine McCallum-Ceylan and Baki Ceylan, and daughter, Donna Koopman and Nicholas Tertel, six grandchildren, three sisters, Heather Gordon, Maureen Stehr and Susan Whyman, two brothers, Malcolm McCallum and Neil McCallum, and 13 nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 4-7 p.m., at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, N.H. A memorial service will be held at a later date on April 8, 2017, at 2 p.m., at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Exeter.
