Christina Metivier Obituary

RYE, N.H. - Christina Remick Metivier - daughter of M.S. "Tony" and Emily Remick, widow of Robert "Harry" Metivier Jr., mother of Matthew and Daniel Metivier - breathed her last on Monday, July 3 2017, conceding defeat to nearly 70 years of skirmishes with existence.

A lifelong Rye resident, Chris was an artist, an ardent bibliophile and unapologetic accumulator of the unique, unusual and often questionable. She wrote a biweekly newspaper column, "The Wry View," for many years which allowed her to exploit her uncanny ability to find the cloud in any silver lining as well as publicly embarrass her children. Chris is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Provincial discontent regularly lured Chris and Harry abroad, most often to Ireland, her favorite place to be second only to her custom-built kitchen table. She was a charter member of Rye Congregational Church and a juried member of the N.H. Art Association. Chris took townie volunteerism to new heights as a member of both the Rye Historical Society and Rye Heritage Commission.

Chris is survived by her alleged two greatest joys in life, their wives, many nephews, several nieces, a few cousins and possibly others but it's complicated. She had been eagerly looking forward to meeting her first grandchild later this year and also the CBS news at 6:30 p.m.

SERVICES: A celebration of life will be held at Rye Congregational Church on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Attendees are implored to dress comfortably and bring a hilarious memory to share. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers or cards, a donation in memory of Chris can be made to Great Bay Services gbsnh.org or the ChildFund.org.

I was so sad to hear of Chris's death, it marks the end of a 45 year transatlantic friendship. I had so much fun with Chris and Harry on my many visits to them over the years. I shall really miss her.

Our condolences on your mothers passing . She and Harry were great people to know. We had a lot of fun with them and the rest of the Rye group on scavenger hunts around town.

To Chris's family, I was saddened to read of your mother's passing. I worked closely with her and your father during my tenure with Maple Suites in Dover. I always looked forward to meeting with her (and your dad) as she w2as so entertaining. May she be in glory with your father.

Hi Matt and Daniel,
We have always loved your parents (and, yes, even you guys!! Your Mom was a pleasure to be around and was always hospitable when we stopped in to visit, unannounced, of course! We will miss her and hope to keep in touch with you and your families until we join your Mom at the Pearly Gates. I know Marcia will get in, but sometimes worry that they's close the door on me! Dan, Mary and Matthew,

I so enjoyed getting to know Chris and having her as a guest at our family gatherings. No conversation around our table could upset that wry view of the world around her. I will miss her. But I'm sure we'll see glimpses of her fun, artistic, quirky spirit peering out from the child you will welcome in September.

Love always,
Pat
