ORTLEY BEACH, N.J. - Doris (Mae Coughlan) C. McGrath, 89, of Ortley Beach, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. "Doe" was born in Plainfield, N.J. and was a long time resident of Wayne, N.J., and later Ortley Beach, N.J. In 2012, Husband (Bob) and Doris relocated to Exeter, N.H. after their home was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. Most recently, Doris lived at the Riverwoods community in Exeter, New Hampshire where she enjoyed an active life with many friends and thoroughly enjoyed her interactions with the staff.
After graduating Plainfield High School, Doris enrolled in the Pediatric Nursing Program at Coit Memorial in Newark, N.J. Upon completion of the program Doris worked at Babies Hospital/Coit Memorial and later at Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, N.J. Later, Doris's was President of Our Lady of the Valley (OLV) Rosary Society in Wayne, N.J., as well as President of the Women's Council at OLV for several years. She chaired many fundraisers for OLV that were highly successful and resulted in large donations to the church's grammar school and church. Additionally, Doris was a member of the Elks Auxiliary in Wayne, Care Givers of Central Ocean County, "Friends of the Library", St. Pio's Rosary Society, and Deborah Hospital-Seaside Chapter. Doris was also Treasurer of The Ortley Beach Sea Bay Club and President of St. Bonaventure Craft Group in Lavallette, N.J.
She is survived by her children, Paul, Peter (Sue), Pam, Linda, and Barbara (Stephen); nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two great-granddaughters.
SERVICES: A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 10, at 2 p.m., at St. Clement's Church, 172 Freneau Avenue, Matawan, NJ 07747.
