Stanley Morgan Graves

With a twinkle in his eye Stanley was born in Seattle, WA on April 23, 1927 to Helen and Wallis Graves. He was raised in Laurelhurst and attended Roosevelt High School where playing H.S. football was one of the highlights of his life. He often reminisced about earning the title of "All City End". He met his wife Suzanne Brannen in H.S. and they both attended Univ. of Wash. where he earned a degree in Mech. Engineering. In addition to his studies, Stan was an eager participant in his SAE Fraternity, Oval Club and Purple Shield. After High School, engineering jobs were scare so he started his career as a Marketing Rep for ARCO and a few years later he was drafted into the Army. While serving, he married Suzanne and in 1956 they moved to Kennewick, WA where he worked for GE at the Hanford Plant. While in Kennewick they had three children, Kathleen, Robert and Lynn. His career later took the family to Sweden and then Connecticut before returning to Seattle in 1972 where Stan took a job as a project manager with the Boeing Company Energy Division, until his retirement. Stan and Sue divorced in 1984 and he married Carolyn Souslin a few years later. To Stan there was no "down-time". He was an avid skier into his 80's, taking many ski trips in the US, Canada and Europe. His other interests included tennis, hiking, cooking and traveling. Stan loved sailing and the family spent many summers on the Karoly II exploring the Canadian waters. Stan was passionate about football and was a season ticket holder from the beginning of the Seahawks franchise. In addition to his sports side, Stan enjoyed the arts, writing poetry, painting and pursuing his singing talents. There was rarely a time when Stan couldn't be heard singing wherever he was. Taking up singing lessons late in life he was determined to perfect his ability to stay on key. But, perhaps his greatest pride was his four grandchildren. Whether it was a musical performance, a game, or a rowing event, Grandpa would always be there. He loved them dearly. Everybody knew "Grandpa Stanley". His grandson Brannen said "He always looked on the bright side of life, was a sharp thinker, a patient mentor and showed love for those in his life". He is survived by his daughter Lynn Chun (Larry) and son Robert Graves (Nancy), four grandchildren Sarah and Elisabeth Chun, Brannen and Ryan Graves, brother Peter Graves, (Helen) and former wives, Sue Brannen Pocock (Stan) and Caroline Graves and family. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Graves Lincoln and her husband Edward. The family wishes to express grateful thanks to the ICU staff at Harborview Hospital who made his last days so comfortable and appreciated his humor, intelligence and courage.

Services will be held May 4, 2014, 3:00 p.m. at Lake Forest Park Civic Club. Memorials in his honor may be made to the charity of your choice or Shoreline Rotary Club.
