Marthanna Elvidge Veblen

Born October 3, 1920 in Seattle, WA. Attended Mills College, Oakland, CA, received Bachelor of Arts Degree, 1942, and Master of Librarianship Degree in 1959 from the University of Washington, Seattle. Librarian at Seattle Pacific College (later University) and at King County Library System. She Passed away September 3rd, 2015.

Married John Veblen, October 24,

1942. Mother of John Elvidge Veblen (Magnolia Davidson) of Seattle, and Christopher Ford Veblen (Victoria Meadows) of Shelton, WA. Grand-children are Mark Fend Veblen (Lynn Poss) and Lara Elvidge Veblen Traeger (Scott Trager) and Great Grand-child, Ethan Trager.

Author of "Aging in the State of Washington"...Report of the Governor's Council on Aging, 1961; "Giant Strides since Andrew Carnegie", 1975; "Aging-Where to Turn in Washington State", 1976.

Member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Seattle, since 1945; active in Altar Guild, kneelers for the Chapel, Cloud 9 of St. Stephens. Many years on the Retirement Home Board, Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, and President of Washington Retirement Park. Volunteer at the Children's Hospital and Medical Center.

Participated actively in professional library associations and in organizations related to the needs of the aging and elderly. Co-author of the History of the Hearthstone, 1996.

Social associations she particular-

ly enjoyed included: early member

of the Laurelhurst Beach Club Fatty Fleet; Junior League, the Women's University Club of Seattle (Life Member); Sunset Club of Seattle; Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority; Arboretum Unit #18; National League of American Pen Women, Seattle Branch; and Genealogical Societies: National Society of the Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, and California Pioneers; and the Book Group, a group of many years standing.

She loved to share her Dove's Dark Chocolate and her Grand Marnier (over vanilla ice cream) with her friends at dinner.

Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army or to a charity of one's choice.

A Memorial and Celebration of her life will be held Sunday October the 18th, 2015 at The Hearthstone at 1:30pm in the Chapel.
