William Gordon Scalzo
William Gordon Scalzo (Bill), 75, died Friday, February 22, 2013, with his family by his side. Bill was born January 10, 1938, in Seattle to Joseph and Theresa Scalzo. He grew up in a home near Dearborn Street, the youngest of four boys. Bill graduated from Seattle Prep and Seattle University, prior to taking a job at Gai's bakery. He worked at the bakery over the next 25 years. Bill met the love of his life, Marilyn Patricia Haughian (Pat), while attending a Chancellor Club bowling tournament in Vancouver, BC. They were married shortly thereafter in Seattle, at St John's Catholic Church on August 30, 1969. Bill was given this most wonderful gift in marriage for just under 18 years prior to Pat's passing in 1987. However, Bill made sure Pat lived as much in death as she did in life over the next 26 years as he remained widowed until his death, while constantly professing his undying love for her throughout the rest of his life. Bill had a passion for movies; he was known by family and friends as the person to go to when needing an update about the best movies and the favorites for the Academy Awards each year. Bill was an active member of St Monica's parish and the Knights' of Columbus. He had a deep rooted faith in God and was a strong practicing Catholic throughout his life. Bill devoted much of his time and energy in his later years to others as a caregiver to family members, including his mother and brothers until their passing, as well as a frequent contributor to feeding the needy at Sacred Heart in Seattle. Bill was survived by his brother, Donald Scalzo; 2 sons and their spouses, Chris and Heidi and Dean and Suzanne; 4 grandchildren, Lisa, Marilyn, Jacob and Vincent. He was preceded in death by his wife Pat and brothers Thomas and Richard.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at St Monica Catholic Church in Mercer Island. Remembrances may be shared at:

The Scalzo Family, may you find comfort in your many memories with Bill. So sorry to hear of your loss.
Years ago as children, both our parents were close friends and we shared good times whenever we got together.
Rest in Peace, Bill, as you are enjoying that togetherness with your family and Pat once again.

Dean and Chris, I didn't know your father well but I remember him being a very passionate person, especially regarding his sons. I wish you both and your families the Lord's comfort at this time of grieving, as well as courage to live with as much of his enthusiasm in your lives as well. May God bless you.

Didn't matter I was late to many things because I enjoyed talking with William more. He was such a wonderful oracle on many topics and helped keep me up on his terrific sons, Chris and Dean, as well as the beautifully legendary Scalzo clan. William filled me in on what happened in the northwest before I got here in 1966.
Truly a Soldier for Christ!
