Obituaries from the Past Week

O'Boyle, Elizabeth Jane (Beth) - Seattle
Elizabeth (Beth) Jane O'Boyle Feb. 25, 1922 ~ Nov. 28, 2014 Beth Short grew up on a small farm in the Kent Valley, the second of four children raised by a widowed mother through the Depression. She graduated from Kent High School in 1940 and spent the war years working as a secretary at Seattle City Light. In 1948, an aircraft mechanic with rough hands, but a kind heart, introduced himself at the Spanish Castle dance hall on old Highway 99. Beth and Jim O'Boyle were married in July of 1950. Together with her sisters, Kay and Rita, her brother Bill, and their colorful mix of childhood friends and their spouses, Beth was part of a large, fun-loving Kent clan that enjoyed a lifelong kinship and countless family get-togethers. For nearly half a century, their holiday parties and group vacations were not to be missed. Beth and Jim raised five children in Burien before moving to Bothell in 1967. With the kids all in school, she went to work for the Northshore School District until retiring in 1982. The church was always an important part of her life, and she was an active volunteer at St Brendan Catholic Church for over 40 years. She saved her greatest work for the family she loved and the friends she cherished. Her Sunday dinners, Christmas cookies, and colorful flowerbeds had no peer, and she never squandered an opportunity to send a note, make a call, pay a visit or give of herself. Beth is survived and adored by her husband Jim; her children Tom (Sharon), Bryan (Gale), Patti, Dan and Peggy (Tom); and her grandchildren Gavin, Connor, Kate and Maggie. Words can't describe how grateful we are and how much you'll be missed, Mom. Nobody did it like you! Funeral Mass to be held on Friday, December 19, 2014, 11:00 am at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Bothell. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, send donations to The Franciscan School of Theology, Kathryn E. Short Memorial Fund, 4050 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92057.
