Rubie, Rick Gary - Seattle
Richard "Rick" Gary Rubie On the evening of Sunday, November 16th, 2014, the world lost an irreplaceably genuine, selfless, and sincere man in Rick Rubie. He passed away peacefully in his home, in the company of loved ones, after an unfairly brief bout with pancreatic cancer at the age of 62. Rick was born on November 29th, 1951 to Evelyn "Joanne" and Richard "Dick" Rubie in Havre, Montana, the oldest of five siblings. He graduated from Sentinel High School in Missoula, Montana before attending Menlo College, and ultimately graduating from the University of Montana with a business degree in 1977. He worked in banking in Montana and Portland, Oregon, before moving to Bothell, Washington, eventually becoming a project manager at Glumac, an engineering firm in Seattle. He was a tireless worker, who was highly regarded and valued by his coworkers. Rick was a consummate entertainer and chef, even operating a catering business for a number of years. He loved nothing more than cooking for a crowd and being surrounded by family and friends. He was a voracious reader, devouring countless books on his Nook. Rick was quick with jokes, comebacks, and refills of one's empty glass or plate, and even quicker with a compliment. His seemingly limitless hospitality and warmth will be sorely missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Rick was highly respected and well-liked by nearly everyone he knew, but his greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann, daughters Jessica, Megan (T.J.), son Todd (Jenna), granddaughters Carolyn, Nora, Eleanor, and numerous extended family members. Rick is gone far too soon, but left indelible impressions on all those fortunate enough to cross his path; he will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations have been requested in Rick's memory to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Please direct your funds toward pancreatic cancer, as Fred Hutch is the institution that treated Rick in the final months of his life.
