VanSteenvoort, Marian R. - Seattle  
Marian R. VanSteenvoort Marian R. VanSteenvoort of West Seattle passed away quietly on August 31, 2015. She was born in Devils Lake, ND on December 6, 1922. Marian graduated from high school in Crary, ND where her family had a business, later moving to West Seattle. She became a registered nurse (RN) graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Devils Lake, ND. She later graduated from the University of Washington obtaining her BSN. Marian was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy during WWII and was later recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict serving for a total of nine years in the US Navy. She obtained the rank of LT in the Naval Reserve. During her many years in the Seattle area she worked as an RN at various facilities as a Public Health Nurse and an operating room nurse. After retiring, she became an avid gardener, lover of dogs and a volunteer at the Seattle Zoo. She often traveled back to North Dakota to visit family and friends. Marian was preceded in death by her parents Clara (Vanderlin) and Joe VanSteenvoort; her brothers Edward, Don and Joseph and nephew and niece Ted and Cheryl. She is survived by nephews, Don, Tom, Scott and Brett. Interment will be at the Forest Lawn cemetery.

Van Devender, Thomas L. - Mercer Island  
Thomas L. Van Devender Thomas Lester Van Devender, 76, of Mercer Island, WA, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA. Born in Sioux City, IA to Lester and Sophie Van Devender he lived his life throughout the United States, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Caracas, Venezuela. Thomas graduated from East High School in Sioux City, IA in 1957 and graduated from the University of Washington in 1963. He worked for General Electric throughout his career retiring from the company in Caracas, Venezuela. Thomas was extremely loving and proud of his four children, Tracey Kimbrell (daughter) and her husband William Clay; Eric Van Devender (son); Craig Van Devender (son) and his wife Julie; and Alex Van Devender (son). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Ashley (Kimbrell) Lindsay, Deven Kimbrell, Conrad Van Devender, and Emerson Van Devender; his brother, Dan Van Devender and his wife Debbie; and, most of all, the love of his life, his wife and best friend, Gertrude (Slade) Van Devender.
