Charlotte Ann (Wedin) Kassens
November 24, 1946-October 27, 2012
Charlotte was born on November 24, 1946 in Seattle to Billie D. and Irenice H. Wedin and graduated from Franklin High School. While working at Boeing in 1968 Charlotte met Tom Kassens and they were married August 17, 1968. They have one daughter, Debbie Kassens Holdren. Charlotte worked for over twenty years at the Kent Newspaper, which went by several names, including Kent News Journal, Valley Daily News and South County Journal.
Charlotte had a variety of hobbies during her life, many of which came after her retirement in December 2000. She was a longtime member of Northwest Folkdancers, Inc. (NFDI). When Tom joined the Boeing Management Association Klown Klub, She tagged along as a photographer to document some of the gigs. She was a good photographer and several albums were made for the Klub using her pictures. She also developed the clown persona of Peri Winkle, and went with Tom on some of the entertainment gigs.
In the late 1990's Charlotte and Tom joined the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), where she took the name of Elin Karlsdotter, a Viking lady. In the SCA she honed her skills of cooking to include the study of medieval recipes. She also participated in traditional archery, leather working and wood working. She was recognized several times for her contributions in the local branch of the SCA.
