Dorothy Bostrom(1914 - 2014)

Dorothy Bostrom

Dorothy Bostrom was born June 4, 1914 to August Edward and Mary Olive Bostrom in De Smet, South Dakota, and passed away June 12, 2014 in Seattle WA at the age of 100.

She grew up in De Smet, and had one sister Olive, who was three years younger. After graduating from high school, she attended Carleton College in MN for two years and then graduated from the University of Minnesota. She completed her master's degree in social work and took her first job at the University Hospital in Minneapolis.

In 1944, she moved to Utah with her friend Mary and worked for the Public Health Department for several years and then to Seattle to be closer to family. She worked in the Social Service Department of Harborview Medical Center and the Rehabilitation department at the University of Washington. There she represented the Washington state agency and served as the conduit between the agency and the school.

In 1976, she retired and enjoyed traveling to Europe where her family originated. She has been a resident of the Hearthstone Retirement Home in Seattle since 1989. She truly was an asset to that community serving as a member of the board for several years. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 78 years serving the needs of Chapter A.O. in all capacities.

She treasured her family and friends and her pearl of wisdom would be: Enjoy every minute of your life as if were your last. She did that indeed!

She truly was ahead of her time and will be greatly missed by all.

No formal memorial service will be held. Donations in Dorothy's memory can be made to .
